Daily Devotion: Clothed in Holiness

0:00

Scripture: Exodus Chapters 28-30

Reflection:

Exodus chapters 28 to 30 delve into the detailed instructions for the garments of the priesthood, the consecration of the priests, and the construction of the altar of incense. These chapters highlight the importance of sacred duties and the holiness required to serve before God.

In Exodus 28, God commands the creation of holy garments for Aaron and his sons, to give them dignity and honor as they serve as priests. The garments, crafted with gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, are not just ornamental but symbolic, representing divine glory and beauty. The breastplate, ephod, and other elements are meticulously designed to reflect God’s majesty and the serious nature of approaching His presence.

Exodus 29 details the consecration of the priests, a process filled with offerings and rituals that signify purification and dedication to God’s service. This consecration is necessary to prepare Aaron and his sons to minister before the Lord, underscoring the sanctity and significance of their roles.

Chapter 30 introduces the altar of incense, which is to be placed before the veil that shields the Ark of the Covenant. The continual burning of incense represents the prayers of the people rising to God, a perpetual act of worship and communication with the divine.

Prayer:

Lord our God,

We thank You for the beauty and depth of the instructions You provided for worship in the Tabernacle. Help us to grasp the importance of holiness and dedication in our own lives as we serve and worship You. Teach us to approach You with reverence and awe, mindful of the sanctity of Your presence.

As the priests were clothed in garments made for glory and beauty, clothe us in Your righteousness and holiness. May our lives reflect Your glory as we walk in obedience and faith.

Guide us in our daily acts of worship, whether in moments of quiet prayer or in our actions towards others, that they may be a pleasing aroma before You.

In the name of Jesus, our High Priest, we pray, Amen.

Today, consider how you are preparing yourself to serve God. Reflect on the “garments” you wear—those of patience, kindness, humility, and love. How do these reflect your dedication to serving God and others?
