Daily Devotion: Deliverance and Remembrance

Scripture: Exodus Chapters 11-13

Reflection:

Exodus chapters 11 to 13 recount the culmination of God’s mighty acts in Egypt with the final and most devastating plague—the death of the firstborn. God’s judgment against Pharaoh’s obstinacy reaches its peak, leading to the long-awaited release of the Israelites from slavery. This dramatic event underlines the theme of deliverance, showcasing God’s power to save and His commitment to His promises.

Chapter 12 introduces the Passover, a pivotal institution for the Israelite community. This ritual meal, featuring the lamb whose blood would mark the houses of the Israelites and protect them from the angel of death, becomes a lasting ordinance. It serves as a memorial of God’s deliverance and a foreshadowing of the ultimate sacrifice in Christ, the Lamb of God. This chapter not only highlights God’s provision and protection but also calls for obedience and remembrance from His people.

As the Israelites finally leave Egypt in chapter 13, they are led by God Himself, appearing as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, guiding and protecting them on their journey. This visible sign of God’s presence assures them of His constant guidance and care.

Prayer:

Mighty God,

We thank You for Your acts of deliverance in our lives, as You have saved us through Your mighty hand and outstretched arm. Help us to remember and honor Your deeds through our daily actions and decisions.

As You led the Israelites from bondage to freedom, lead us from the bondage of sin into the freedom of Your grace in Christ Jesus. May we always be mindful of Your presence, follow Your guidance, and live as a people set apart for Your glory.

Thank You for being our constant guide and protector. We trust in Your power and promises, and we seek to live in a manner worthy of the calling You have given us.

In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Reflect on the ways God has delivered you in your own life and how you can keep the memory of His deeds alive. How can you apply the principles of the Passover—obedience, remembrance, and consecration—in your daily walk with God?
