Daily Devotion: Witnessing God’s Power

Scripture: Exodus Chapters 8-10

Reflection:

In Exodus 8 through 10, we witness the escalating confrontation between God and Pharaoh, marked by the first seven of the ten plagues. These plagues—frogs, gnats, flies, livestock pestilence, boils, hail, and locusts—demonstrate God’s power over Egypt’s natural and cultural realms, each plague challenging the Egyptians’ gods and Pharaoh’s authority.

This series of divine interventions serves not only as a means to compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites but also as a powerful lesson on the sovereignty of God. Each plague grows in intensity, reflecting God’s escalating response to Pharaoh’s hardened heart and his refusal to acknowledge God’s supremacy.

Despite witnessing these signs and wonders, Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened. This stubborn resistance highlights a profound spiritual truth: witnessing miracles or experiencing God’s power firsthand doesn’t automatically lead to faith or obedience. True transformation requires humility and the willingness to submit to God’s will.

Prayer:

Lord Almighty,

We stand in awe of Your power and sovereignty as displayed through the plagues in Egypt. Teach us the humility to submit to Your will even when it challenges our understanding or desires. Help us to learn from Pharaoh’s mistakes and not harden our hearts when confronted with Your truth.

Strengthen our faith and deepen our obedience as we witness Your work in our lives and in the world. May we respond with reverence and commitment, trusting in Your purpose and timing.

In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Today, reflect on the ways God has shown His power and presence in your life. Consider how you can respond with humility and obedience, avoiding the hardening of your heart regardless of the challenges you may face.
