Daily Devotion: The Righteousness that Comes from Faith

Scripture: Romans Chapters 9 and 10

Reflection:

Romans 9 and 10 delve deep into the heart of Apostle Paul’s sorrow and his hope for his fellow Israelites. His pain stems from their general rejection of Christ, despite their zealous pursuit of God’s law. Romans 9 emphasizes God’s sovereignty in salvation, presenting a challenging discussion about election and mercy. “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion” (Romans 9:15). This passage reminds us that God’s ways and choices are beyond our understanding and rooted in His perfect wisdom and justice.

Transitioning into Romans 10, Paul’s tone shifts from one of distress over Israel’s status to an impassioned plea for the recognition of the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). This simple yet profound declaration encapsulates the core of the gospel—the belief in Christ as the pathway to righteousness, rather than adherence to the law.

The message is clear: salvation is accessible to everyone, Jew and Gentile alike, through faith in Jesus Christ. This universal offer rejects distinctions and barriers, inviting all to embrace the promise of eternal life. It underscores the importance of proclaiming the gospel, as “faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17).

Prayer:

Lord God,

We thank You for the righteousness that comes from faith in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to fully embrace this gift and to share the good news with all those around us. Give us the courage to speak boldly about Your love and salvation, knowing that it is not through our own works, but through faith in Christ that we are saved.

Grant us compassion and understanding for those who are still seeking, and use us as instruments of Your grace. May Your Spirit guide us in living out the gospel every day.

In the glorious name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Today, let us reflect on the incredible grace of God that invites us to abandon self-righteousness and to embrace a faith that saves. Spread the message of Christ’s love and righteousness to all, for in this message lies the power of salvation.
