Study David, Ruth and Paul – A Daily Devotion

Daily Devotion – Day 1: David

Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:7

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'”

Reflection:

Today we focus on David, a shepherd boy who became a king. His life is one of victory and defeat, humility and pride. Yet David is repeatedly referred to as “a man after God’s own heart”. What can we learn from his life?

David’s story encourages us to see that true character and leadership come from within. It’s not about our outward appearance or our worldly possessions, it’s about what’s in our hearts. We can also take comfort in knowing that despite our flaws and imperfections, like David’s, God still chooses us for His purpose.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, help me to develop a heart like David’s – one that seeks after you and trusts in your purposes above all else. Help me remember that my identity lies not in worldly appearances but in You alone.

Daily Devotion – Day 2: Ruth

Scripture: Ruth 1:16

“But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.'”

Reflection:

Ruth was a woman of courage and loyalty who left her native land to care for her mother-in-law Naomi. Her actions exemplify faithfulness even during difficult circumstances.

From Ruth’s story, we learn the power of loyalty and love over cultural differences. She challenges us to make decisions based not on convenience or personal comfort but on love for others.

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for Ruth’s example of steadfast love and loyalty. May we strive to reflect those traits in our own lives, demonstrating selfless love to those around us.

Daily Devotion – Day 3: Paul

Scripture: Acts 9:1-22

Saul was breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples… As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him… ‘Who are you, Lord?’ Saul asked.

Reflection:

The life of Paul is a remarkable story of transformation from a zealous persecutor of Christians to one of Christ’s most influential apostles.

Paul’s life reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. His radical conversion encourages each one of us, that no matter how far we may feel from God, He is closer than we think.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for your grace that reaches us no matter where we are in our spiritual journey. Help us, like Paul, to dedicate our lives fully to serving you and sharing your good news with others.
