The Triumphal Entry – A Daily Devotion

0:00

Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11

As Jesus approached Jerusalem, He sent two disciples ahead, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

The disciples did as Jesus instructed, and soon they brought the donkey and her colt to Him. They placed their cloaks on the donkey’s back, and Jesus sat upon it, fulfilling the prophecy spoken by the prophet Zechariah: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'”

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, a great crowd gathered, spreading their cloaks on the road before Him and waving palm branches, shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and excitement as the people recognized Jesus as their long-awaited Messiah, their king. They hoped for deliverance from Roman oppression and restoration of their nation’s glory.

But Jesus knew that His kingdom was not of this world. He came not to establish an earthly kingdom but to reign in the hearts of those who would believe in Him. He came to offer salvation, not just to the Jews but to all humanity.

As we reflect on Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, let us remember that He is the true King who reigns with humility and compassion. Let us welcome Him into our lives, laying our hopes and dreams before Him, and acknowledging Him as our Lord and Savior.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, as our King and Savior. Help us to recognize His authority in our lives and to welcome Him with joy and humility. May we always follow Him faithfully, trusting in His plan for our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
