The Beginning of the Journey – A Daily Devotion

0:00

Scripture: Matthew 26:36-46

In the quiet of the night, Jesus withdrew to the garden of Gethsemane, a place of solitude and prayer. The weight of what lay ahead pressed heavily upon Him. He knew the path before Him was one of suffering, yet He embraced it willingly, driven by love for humanity.

As Jesus prayed, His disciples slumbered nearby, unaware of the anguish He faced. Three times He pleaded with His Father, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

But there was no other way. The journey to the cross had begun, and Jesus would walk it with unwavering determination, for it was the path ordained for Him since the foundation of the world.

Imagine the scene: the moon casting shadows on the olive trees, the night alive with the sounds of nature, and Jesus, in the midst of it all, pouring out His heart to His Father. He knew the road ahead would be filled with trials, betrayal, and agony beyond comprehension, yet He surrendered to the divine plan with humility and obedience.

As we reflect on the beginning of Jesus’ journey to the cross, let us remember the depth of His love for us. He willingly chose to endure suffering and death so that we might have eternal life. May we, too, surrender our will to the Father’s and follow Jesus with unwavering faith, trusting in His perfect plan for our lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to grasp the depth of His love for us as we journey through this season of reflection. Give us the strength to surrender our will to Yours, trusting in Your perfect plan for our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
