As we approach Easter, Colossians 2:12 reminds us of the profound spiritual reality that we participate in through our faith in Jesus Christ. This verse speaks of our union with Christ in his death and resurrection, highlighting the transformative power of Easter in our lives.
“having been buried with him in baptism…” Baptism symbolizes our identification with Christ in his death. Just as Jesus was buried in the tomb, so too are we buried with him through baptism. Our old self, characterized by sin and separation from God, is submerged beneath the waters, signifying its death and burial.
“…in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.” But the story does not end with burial. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of God, so too are we raised to newness of life through our faith in him. Easter is not just a historical event; it is a present reality that transforms us from the inside out.
Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we are united with him in his resurrection.
